You've probably heard that you can only get where you want to be if you know where you're going. How do you decide where you want to go, so you can get where you want to be?

Goals are crucial. When we set goals, we're bringing our lives in line with our overall vision for ourselves. Using a powerful vision-setting process can help you set more effective goals. With goals established, you can chart a course that will help you achieve your vision.

Do you have a vision for each segment of your life? Do you know where you're headed spiritually, socially, relationally, physically and financially?

Use this process to help you create a life vision:

Write down your vision

Write a couple of paragraphs describing what you'd like your life to be like. There's no right or wrong. In fact, you probably won't  articulate your dreams precisely the very first time you try the exercise. A reasonable guess is a great place to start.

Focus on what you want to bring about in your life. Avoid focusing on what you don’t want, because negative thinking often brings about negative results. For example, if you want more money, avoid wording your statement like, “I don’t want to be poor anymore.” Instead, envision what it would be like to be financially secure, and write about what that life would be like for you. "If I was financially secure, I would pay my bills on time, I would give generously to my favorite charity...."

The rewards of focusing on what you want rather than what you don't, can be spectacular. Over time, this difficult process gets easier as you train your brain to do it consistently.

Review your vision statement regularly

Review your vision frequently and ensure that it continues to attract you. Imagine that your life matches your vision perfectly. How does your vision make you feel? Are you really excited and enthusiastic? Is it appealing to you on all levels? This practice help you to initiate the changes you need to make in your daily habits to help you move towards the life you want.

Refine your vision statement

If you like your vision statement, that's great. If not, keep working on it. Continue refining your vision until it feels spectacular. Re-write each new version.

At this point, you may be wondering how long this process will go on. Fortunately, it never ends. Your vision will be changing slightly throughout your life to reflect your changing desires.

Create separate vision statements of each area of your life

Consider your finances, relationships, adventure, health, social life, and spirituality. Imagine what your life would be like if you can create visions and goals in each of these areas that move you towards growth and transformation!

Why Spend Time On This Process?

The process of imagining an enjoyable life is pleasurable in itself! Creating a vision is the first step to creating the life you desire. Tweak your life vision frequently and focus on the experience of living that vision.

Don't hesitate; create your life vision today. Review and improve your vision often. Your life will change rapidly for the better.
