Ayurveda? Eye-yer-what?

For my friends and family who are thoroughly confused about my particular natural health practice, I've decided to write a multi-part blog about the ancient science of Ayurveda.

Ayurveda is the world’s oldest health system, originating in India over 5,000 years ago. Ayurveda originates from two Sanskrit words: ayer, meaning “life,” and veda, meaning “knowledge.” Ayurveda is the science of life and it is focused on balancing the mind and body for thriving health.

Western medicine treats each part of the body separately. Cardiologists treat heart disease, gastroenterologists treat problems with the digestion organs, endocrinologists treat diabetes and other hormonal issues, etc. In Ayurveda, all areas of health, physical and emotional, are interconnected. Ayurveda connects bloating and anxiety, heartburn and anger, weight gain and depression, and offers ways to bring each issue back into balance.

Ayurveda looks at the root cause of problems rather than just treating symptoms. Diet and lifestyle habits, herbs, treatments and various remedies and practices are used to maintain balance. When the body or mind become imbalanced, we experience symptoms that tell us that something is not going well.  Symptoms of disease are the body’s way of giving us feedback that something we are doing isn’t working. The good news is that symptoms of disease can usually be reversed by changing our lifestyle habits.

The Ayurvedic lifestyle habits are based on living in sync with nature. When your bodily rhythms are synchronized with circadian rhythm, you experience harmony, balance, ease, flow and thrive. When you live out of balance with nature, you experience stress, rapid aging, and disease.

My program, Ready, Set, Thrive!, guides you into developing ten specific habits from the teachings of Ayurveda, based on the book, Body Thrive, by Cate Stilllman. I’ll coach you through the habits and be there to provide support for you during your next phase of personal growth. If you are interested in learning more about my program, schedule a free Discovery Session.
